The earliest documented proof of Filipino presence in the continental United States was the date of October 18, 1587, when the first “Luzones Indios” set foot in Morro Bay, California, on board the Manila-built galleon ship Nuestra Senora de Esperanza. The early settllers were farmers and field workers and in the 1930's the US Navy allowed 25,000 Filipino men to become US citizens after serving 3 years in the US military fighting WW2. During World War II, more than 260,000 Filipino and Filipino American soldiers answered the call to action and bravely served and sacrificed under the American flag. The Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional God Medal Act unanimously passed through Congress and was signed into law in December of 2016 . We have long been allies of the United States and have migrated here to become caregivers, workers, business owners, military, Doctors, Nurses, artists among others.
